You Gotta' Read This One!

Hey Everyone! For the last week of Christmas Break, wich was ALMOST two weeks ago, I went to the Dominican Republic. My brother got invited to play baseball there... Sure, I did watch alot of baseball, and they did really well, but what I thought was interesting was that at the baseball feilds, two kids, about, between 12-14 years of age were there every day along with a few different people...

The baseball academy was very big, and if we had to walk a long distance to another baseball field, the kids would offer to help out. They would carry your chairs (they provided plastic chairs), or bag, or cooler, etc. Once you had got to the feild, they would set your things down carefully and wait a minute, expecting a tip. $1 American dollar is 35 pesos. Not very much, but still, something. You didn't have to tip them, but it was nice too. They wanted to earn money for their family.

What I thought was cute, was, well I made a friend named Caitlyn, and her littler brother, Jake, was very interjetic. He always had something to say, and would play around with you... I think he is 8 or 9. But anyways, to the point now... he went up to one of the kids that helped out people, (he would sit there the whole game seeing if anyone needed a hand), and asked him to play catch... the kid understood and played catch with Jake. It was kind of a touching moment, because two kids that barely know each other are there playing catch, when the one kid, I don't know, but he may not have a very nice home, and may not have much, was there, having a blast with little Jake.

CLOSING CERAMONY
At the end of the week, on Friday, there was a big closing ceramony at the fields.
At the end of all the games, all the players (the two American teams, rest of them were D.R. teams) met on one of the fields and traded. They traded hats, jerseys, shirts, bats, gloves, batting gloves, helmets, etc. I had an American Baseball Stars hat that I wanted to give away. So I went up, with this girl named Morgan, and we tapped this kid on the shoulder. Imediatly, when he saw the new hat, he took of his hat and gave it to us, and grabbed our hat. He was so happy! That kid won't be forgotten! He wanted to take pictures with EVERYONE. I took a picture with him with my other friends that I made there. And to think that he still has that picture is a cool thought.
A small distance away from the nice mended fields, across a wire fence, were kids about my age, younger, and one kid that was about 15. They were all yelling "My Friend! My Friend!" We knew what they ment. They saw us trading, even though they had nothing to trade, they wanted something. They were all boys, too... so Caitlyn, Morgan, and I carried things over to them, because we felt bad. I had 2 hats, that I imediatly gave away, then this one shirt to give away... So while I was giving away the hats, Caitlyn gave the shirt away... I look to who she gave it to. A kid the age of about 4 or 5, really cute and small with sparkly eyes. He didn't have a shirt on. He snatched the shirt and put it right on him, and smiled. It was the cutest thing ever. Very touching... Behind the kids were homes... not the best homes you'd ever see. I will post pictures later. I would've taken a picture of the boy, but my camera wasn't with me... I won't forget him, either. The picture is stuck in my head...

BEACH:
The beach was warm, the air was wet and warm... There were vendors EVERYWHERE on the beach. We befriended a vendor named Enrique! He gave us AWESOME prices for jewelry.
I went swimming, and scooba-diving... And what else is there to say what you did on the beach besides swim, find seashells, and tan? :)

All in all, it was an AMAZING experience wich I will have to show you pictures of :)
