Yay!! I flew by myself, on two plane flights to DC! My Aunt Nancy and cousin Chris were waiting for me at the gate. Honestly, flying by myself was not as bad as I thought it would be. Although, I did, on one of my flights, have to sit next to a man that was playing with "Bendaroos", (they are like pipe cleaners), and he was...about... 25- 30 ish years old. Wow.
FIRST MUSEUM OF THE TRIP!
Anyways, yesterday was my first full day here. We planned to drive from Aunt Nancy's house (about an hour from DC), to go to the National Geographic Museum. Well, we got to downtown DC, parked in a parking garage, and started walking to where we thought the museum was. (based on our memories of our map quest directions that we left in the car.) We were wondering around, looking for a Burger King... didn't find one. So we went the other direction, basically, in a huge circle before we got to the National Geographic Museum.
Once we arrived, stepping into the museum felt so good because we spent quite a while in the 98-degree-heat. We went into one of their two exhibits: The Titanic Exhibit, first. It was huge, and really amazing. They had all these life-like-miniature models of the boat, and a whole lot of facts about the people on board the ship, how many people survived, how many died, and all of that. They had pictures of the inside of the ship before, and after it sank. There was even videos of the ship when they found in on the bottom of the ocean! It was really cool to see.
We moved on to the Samurai exhibit. In it they had all these facts about the Samurai, what the Samurai would do, the customs, and traditions of the Samurai were also included. In large glass cases, were actually armor that the Samurai wore. They were really detailed pieces, and very cool to see.
DINNER
After we finished the museum, we had about an hour before we had to be at our dinner reservations to meet up with my cousin and her husband (Katie, and her husband Frank). We tried to find the restraint, and we kept getting confused with the streets. Then there were all these crazy different streets. Like one would be a one way, then the next would be a two way street. We were just really confused, yet alone, stuck in the traffic at rush hour.
We finally arrived at dinner. (Oh and we also accidentally went in the wrong restaurant! Then we got to the one that we needed to be at...it was right around the corner.) Dinner was delicious. I had the french onion grilled cheese...mmmmmmm!
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
We finished up dinner, and Katie and Frank took Chris and I to the play "Beauty and the Beast". I've been to a few plays before, some are good, and some are OK, and some are boring. But this play was really great. The props were great, the actors had great voices, and the choreography was great as well. My favorite character was Lumiere. (The Candlestick Guy!! (: ) He was really great! There was also a dancing rug....it was.....interesting?
Well, I've had a great time so far, and I've only been here one whole day. I'm really excited to see what's next! Tonight we are going to a Nationals Baseball Game! It'll be so much fun!
